Do other people think Pride and Prejudice is this boring? Because this was BOOOOOORING.
Now, there aren’t many good things I can say about this book. The style was nice, very appropriate considering the setting and the original. But the book was just frightfully dull and very tedious to read. As much as I appreciated the style, it slowed down things a lot. I think, this is supposed to be a crime novel and it’s just not thrilling enough to be one.
I actually thought that I would enjoy this book since it starts on the October 14th, which is my birthday. But I didn’t. It took me five months to read it. First of all, there’s not enough investigating. Okay, I didn’t expect Darcy to turn into Sherlock Holmes, but there wasn’t any investigating. They even would’ve hanged the wrong man, had the real murderer not confessed - not because he had a bad conscience, but because he was ill.
Well, the characters in general weren’t really relatable. Elizabeth didn’t have an important role whatsoever; she just was there because she was in “Pride & Prejudice”. It wouldn’t make any difference if her character would just be cut out of the story altogether. And Darcy slowed down the plot even more than the style. Yes, we get it, he’s a dark character with lots of dark thoughts.
There was a lot of potential in this idea, taking a romance novel and turning it into crime fiction. It just wasn’t done very well. There was nothing original to the story. Wickman was again the cause for all the trouble everyone had to go through, Darcy loomed about, Lydia was annoying, and so on.
At least, all the pieces fitted together nicely in the end, but that’s not enough to make a good crime novel.

An enjoyable light read. A little failing in some parts but still a good read
Honestly, I was disappointed in the book. I wanted more Elizabeth and Darcy time and I found much of the novel to be uninteresting. Maybe I just didn't like the direction P.D. James went with some of the characters. Maybe I just didn't find the mystery all that interesting. Maybe all the above. I really like P.D. James books and I really like Pride and Prejudice...and I really thought the two together would be my favorite book ever but sadly...not even close.

I did really enjoy this book, but can understand why other Jane Austen fans wouldn’t. It isn’t really written like a Jane Austen book. I do think it’s a great story though.
Was enjoying it until it got to the reveal. Such a deus ex machina piece of shit that the book has been flung into the corner of shame, hopefully to never emerge.

I enjoyed the read, however, it was not as fantastic as I had hoped, I found that it was edited poorly and maybe should not have been the first P.D. James book I read. I would still recommend it, especially to those readers who just want to say hi to some of their favourite Austen characters in a new situation.
No. I don't quit books lightly, but this was just bad and I found myself dreading what would happen every time I picked it up.
