Fan fiction that only uses the characters. Annoying instead of an homage.

I liked this more than I was expecting to, considering I'm not a huge mystery fan and am a huge Austen fan (one who tends not to like Austen stuff written by others!). But this is a fun little read! I especially liked the epilogue :)

Growing up one of my absolute favorites was Pride and Prejudice so when I came upon Death Comes to Pemberley by P.D. James I had to purchase it. She takes the Bennet women and dives into their relationships post-marriage and the scandalous behaviors and crimes that can occur in Georgian era romances will keep you turning the pages. If your a fan of Austen's novels then this one is a must read.

Didn't finish it, but it was nice to revisit with characters where "Pride & Prejudice" leaves off. While it was pleasant to read what might have happened afterwards, I wasn't compelled to read beyond the first 80 pages, and the writing isn't in Austen's style. Still, might be a fun beach read for P&P fans.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this but it was enjoyable. It was fun revisiting the old characters and no one had changed dramatically - everyone ends up pretty much just where you might have imaged they would. The mystery was good. I prefer mysteries where everything is laid out and you can try and solve the case along with the detectives but this one was the kind of book where key stuff is hidden until the last minute and then everything falls into place - makes it hard to try to solve it while you're reading.

Nicely written, convincing prose in the style of Austen in some places, but frankly not a lot of plot. The story plods along without much of a narrative at all, it's hard to stay engaged. An interesting idea, it could have been executed differently, and much better.

In spite of many poor reviews I really enjoyed this book. It must be taken as it is, a good murder mystery with the added bonus of already loved characters from a previous story. My only complaint is that there was too much filling in blanks from Pride and Prejudice that weren't relevant to this novel, especially in the epilogue.
slow-paced

Meh. This was ok. I think I am giving it a little boost because I did enjoy revisiting some of my favorite characters, but Elizabeth is barely a supporting character. I did enjoy the fleshing out of Darcy's character. My main issue is this isn't really much of a mystery, and it gets really bogged down in legal procedure about halfway through with a large portion of the story being the testimony at the inquest and trial. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either.
