I enjoyed the story as a whole, but would have loved to have more of the story focused around Elizabeth and her experiences with the plot instead of Mr. Darcy's.

Meh

Started off well and seemed very promising. It got quite silly mid-way through though, and I quickly lost interest. I continued listening to the end though, as I wanted to know who did it. Ending was disappointing though...I expected a lot more.

All I can say is that I'm glad I got this one free from Audible.

I always enjoy a good mystery and I think PD James has handled a modernization of a classic with thought and care. I found the plot well laid out though perhaps a bit sluggish in spots. The best kind of mystery is one that I cannot easily solve half way through the book. Although there were hints of the ending I was delighted to have the final solution laid out before me at the very end.

The actual plot was obvious, but James did a great job of mimicking Austen's style and wrapping up loose ends from the original story.

It was fun, but man it just made me want to reread Pride and Prejudice.

I enjoyed this gently-paced mystery on audiobook. I found some of the reiteration and interpretation of Pride and Prejudice unnecessary, but I liked the portrayal of Elizabeth and Darcy's happy and loving marriage. It was just what I hoped for them.

Well, that was a slog.

Nostalgia for Pride & Prejudice made me like this more than I would normally, because the mystery in and of itself was only so-so. I felt like there was too much information sprung at the reader at the end, with no way to "figure" out the mystery as you went.

So disappointing. I do not want to repeat what other reviews have said, but I must, just a little. This book had such great potential... A murder mystery + Jane + Wickam dies!! Or so it seemed. Oh my gosh I could hardly control my joy. Only to have that joy crushed by a tedious recount of an overall boring crime. Honestly, the same characters repeated the same evidence 8 different times. I figured out most of the solution a quarter through the book, so by the time "revealing" was at hand I was genuinely bored. James seemed more concerned with grasping the personalities of every minor character, but completely botched her portrayal of dear Elizabeth. Apparently marriage and motherhood stole her soul and made her fragile and dull witted. I have never read anything else James has written, nor will I ever again.
