Just so pleasant! This 44 Scotland Street had quite a few capers and scrapes for the cast of characters to face. I really love that Ian Rankin made an appearance! As always, a delightful break from reality.

I have grown slightly tired of this series of books, but there were still some laugh out moments in this volume. If I were to start the series with this book, I probably would not be very impressed, but for people who have read from the beginning, it is worth reading.

Well. Not as good as some of the previous entries in this series, but still quite an entertaining read. I'll still keep an eye for the next one though.

I didn't like this one as much as the other ones in this series, but it was still enjoyable. I actually visited Scotland Street in Edinburgh in December, so that made reading this even more fun.

I really enjoyed this installment of the series and read through it quickly. I wonder where Pat is though....is she no longer a character in this story? Or is she just gone for now?

Matthew's honeymoon escapes were both funny and endearing. He and Eslpeth will have a lovely marriage together I think.

Bruce's story was actually very surprising. I don't think his turn around or "new outlook" will last long though. He has already found another girl and I have a feeling he will slip back into his narcissistic and dense ways.

I'm glad Big Lou has gotten herself out of the entanglement with "the pretender", but I hope she will actually find love and some happiness eventually.

Bertie, my favorite person ever is as adorable and smart as usual. He has joined the boy scouts!! I hope his life is moving in positive direction. I really hope he gets that swiss army knife one day.

Angus and Domica are being nosy and getting into trouble, as usual, which I enjoy. I hope we find out something good has happened to those puppes!

I'm ready to continue on with the story.

Another in the 44 Scotland Street series, and another light, but not as light as you might think, volume. Poor Bertie, will he ever get to be a little boy? And, as always, Cyril, the dog, is a funny character. I recently found out that McCall Smith also has another series which he's written in this same format (originally appearing as a serial in one of the Scottish newspapers). I maybe have to check that one out as well.

Probably again a strong 3,5* read.

My observations about this book - I had some thoughts, to find them confirmed in the foreword of the next volume (#6) by the author: while time passes for the others -apparently 4 years or so had passed, little Bertie is still 6 years old and going strong. :)
I was very surprised by the change in the character of Bruce. And where is Pat, anyways? Hope to find more in the next book.
I have to mention that the adventures of Matthew in Australia made me skip some 30 pages to see if the author went crazy (!!!). After reading the denouement, I came back to where I was with my reading.

So, yes, I already started the next volume in the series, as you probably already understood. :) For me, choosing 44 Scotland Street in these stressful times was absolutely the best decision. :)
