I came to this book on Audible because I like the narrator, it was free, and it sounded interesting (said with a question). Seemed like an October casual read to take a break from some of the more intense reading I've been doing. I fully admit to making fun of the book to my friends during the couple first chapters. It felt very Supernatural ish. Two estranged brothers looking for the father while dealing with magic. But unlike Supernatural I LOVE these characters.
This review is really for the trilogy:
At time of writing I am listening to the trilogy for the third time. This may tell you how much I love these characters. I wanted to watch them evolve again. I feel tethered by magic to Adam and Vic.

3.5 rounded up. Probably would've been a true 4 stars if I'd been reading it, but as an audiobook I had a little trouble convincing myself to get back into the story

Funny, thrilling and full of magic! Amazing read and lovely characters. You can’t help but love Adam and the rag-tag ensemble of people around him. Already onto the sequel!

The writing style of this book is really weird, like it wasn't edited properly. Why are there so many tiny 5-word sentences lined up one after the other? It makes sense now that I've realized it's a debut novel. It also has quite flat characters. Needed a bit more work in my opinion.

A smidge repetitive, but very creative world building. I'm definitely hooked and can't wait for the next one

It's thoroughly mid. Reminds me a lot in the setup of what I've learned of Supernatural through internet osmosis, so I would say fans of that show would probably enjoy this. I enjoyed the setup of the worldbuilding, and Adam's storyline on its own was good, but the character interactions dragged between the brothers, and we saw so little of Bobby from his own perspective that the big revelation for him came out of left field. I also get the idea of setting sequel hooks, but the dangling plot threads just felt sloppily done instead since it took up such a large chunk of the storyline.
