It's sad that I feel like I can't give this book the 4+ stars it deserves, but there was an issue with this book that I just couldn't ignore - the mysoginy.
I can get past the (very slow) first third, and the slightly rushed and melodramatic ending. But this book gives such blatant male-centric whore-shaming "Maddona Whore complex" vibes. 😓😭😮💨
I wish it was at least more aware of this problem, at least if the MC would have liked back on his past behaviors and saw the flaws in it... It might have been somewhat redeemable...
Other than that, it has fantastic lyrical writing, fascinating historical setting, wonderfully developed character... 😩
Because of this, I'm still considering reading this author's new book, which does seem to have the same issues (at least from what I saw on the internet about it so far).
