very enjoyable fantasy fiction read! some classic tropes scattered throughout, and only passing moments of sexual encounters—nothing graphic or crude. plenty of mystery and a good balance of character development. i gained a sense of trust with the author that she would be giving exactly the amount of information about any character that was necessary; no more and no less. (this is helpful for gauging a character’s level of importance)

i loved all the twist and turns of story! can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

I read the entire several years ago before it became popular from BookTok. I chose to pick it up again and realized how much I loved this book, and now that I am a more seasoned adult (I read it while in college) I am really enjoying this series again. I honestly think that this series is better than Sarah J. Mass' ACOTAR.

When I first got into Sarah J. Maas, I read the Throne of Glass series first rather than ACOTAR. However, I do think you should read the ACOTAR series first and then the Throne of Glass series because I feel like I didn't appreciate the Throne of Glass series on the first read through as much as I would have if I read that after ACOTAR.

I know a lot of people say this book is not the greatest but I think the character in the book does act like an 18-year old young woman would. Not many people can pull off 3 POVs in a book and I think SJM did it masterfully.

Oh and for those of you who don't know, this was initially written when SJM was 16 which is honestly super impressive.

I've heard about this series so much! I’ve never read anything by Maas before and her writing style is a little bit different. I immediately liked the main character Celaena. Some reviews have pointed out that for an assassin she is “off her game” several times throughout the book. Most noticeably when
people enter her room at night and she doesn't notice them. I wasn’t bothered by this and I attributed this deadening of her sense to her time spent in the mines. I felt that her awareness increased as the book progressed as she grew healthier and exercised her abilities more.
I was a little disappointed how fast the relationships move in this book as I thought Celaena’s main focus should be the competition but overall it was a believable romance for an 18 year old girl.
