This was my first Stephen King book for book club! And my first thought was...is his writing always like this? Idk how to describe exactly, but it's almost irreverent, like it's always doing a bit. At its best, it was descriptive in a unique and evocative way; at its worst, the bits were too silly or extended or just made me roll my eyes. Lots of sexism from our guy Paul here!

I think reading this made me realize that even though I love horror movies, I'm not really much of a horror book person! I think it's because with a horror movie, no matter how awful it is, it's over in a few hours. With a book, it can take much longer, and I have to actively engage to get through it. This book was suffocating and bleak. I really admired the two character, single room setup of the novel, but it turns out I just don't enjoy having to spend so much time in such a miserable space.

Loved how scary Stephen King depicted the scary lady. Didn’t seem super unique of a story though, but still kept me on my toes and interested
