The start was so slow and challenging but once I got into it I really enjoyed it. Quite emotional at times and was just gagged by the last 2 pages tbh

This one tore me up inside the entire time I was reading it. It's so raw and real. And the ending will leave you reeling.

In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage.

This is a really grim and depressing book - it starts grim and ends grimmer and immensely heavy. From how I see it, John Steinbeck didn't cut the gruesome details out nor restrict himself from really driving the degree of misery and desperation of the people during the depression through.

Like his other books, the theme of this books is human's unrelenting indomitable spirit and strength.

Thus, no matter how depressing the story can get, underneath it always lies hope, love and strength in unity.

This was honestly really good and probably one of my favorite classics I've ever read. If you told me at the beginning of 2024 that I'd be reading a John Steinbeck book, especially The Grapes of Wrath I would have told you that is NOT me.

I would never have thought I'd be reading this, but I came across this adorable mass-market paperback copy at my used bookstore and I didn't want to leave it behind. I ended up leaving it because 1) I don't read mass-market paperbacks and 2) I'm not a classics gal. Immediately when I got home I regretted it and went back for it as soon as I could.

While this wasn't anything new or special I understand why Steinbeck is so well-loved. There were passages in here that I had to reread a few times because of how amazing it was. A three-star classic for me is the highest they've gotten truly as I feel a disconnect with classics versus modern literature.
