This one was even more adorable!

If I thought the orc king was sweet this one gave me a cavity. This was so cute. Frustrating cause Steager was so obtuse but Poppy, boy did she know what she wanted. Loved it!

A terribly good palette cleanser from a two week reading slump that got me itching for something fun and easy to read. I didn’t want to jump right back into full slogs of description and world building. Luckily, my best friend came in clutch and had sent me this as a birthday present.

The beginning is rather slow, there are some mistakes with descriptions and well Poppy’s character is far too naive and extreme with anxiety to always jump to conclusions and even dismiss feelings to support her obscure reasonings. Steager, like any fantasy male that knows about mating bonds keeps Poppy in the dark throughout the whole book in an effort to give her a choice. Well, I call bullshit on that, he had ample opportunity to tell her, he went as far as to asking others not to say anything. He doesn’t explain the knot, the mating or the implications of either.

No wonder Poppy here is worrying whether he’ll dub her in for her crimes or not.

The sex scenes started off great! Then they began to fizzle and the foreplay that was previously seen took a vacation because careful Steager who was always worried about hurting Poppy enters her without a second thought at the end of the book. Twice he fucks her without fully prepping her and in good monster fashion she takes it like a champ. I wouldn’t be so mad if the book didn’t start with accurate depictions of rough sex or having pain or blood occur during/after being penetrated but it seems like the author just forgot that they added it in the first place.

I did squeal with joy when I first read ‘knot’.

Also some positions were difficult to wrap my head around especially when the knot was at work since any movement would surely be prohibited by the knot suctioned cupped to her entrance let alone allowing her to swivel and turn around.

Sure, it wasn’t written well and there’s a lot of mistakes but was it a good read to get me back on the bandwagon? Absolutely. It surely has me yearning for IPB again.

She is runnning from a terrible stepmother to a friend of her father’s. He’s minding his orc business when she crashes into his life with a letter from her father asking him to protect her until she’s married.
