I wish we skipped the first 4 chapters and started with Hazel going to the gas station. Her previous life with all the depression bogged down the beginning and it felt so slow until we hit strides with Goose dropping the fish and the easy, fun banter Lucy Score is known for kicking it up a notch.

Again, Score does really well with funny interactions, zippy banter, dry sarcasm and a sweet cast of oddball towns people. I really enjoyed by FMC and MMC and while he is SUCH a freaking downer (like all grumpies are) and his communication is absolute shit (like all grumpies are), I like that the FMC is able to get through to him on multiple occasions and on the flip side, he's able to get her to communicate to him as well.

I'm hoping Zoey and Gage are the next couple in Story Lake.

She's a romance author who is struggling to write another book after her divorce. He's a grumpy contractor who is remodeling her house. She's trying to model her MMC after him, and convinces him to fake-date for inspiration. I've never read a Lucy Score book before. This was definitely a smutty take on a Hallmark movie. The town, the cast of characters, and the minor conflicts were just a little too quirky.

DID NOT FINISH: 10%

It literally feels like the things we never got over but with different people/ place names. I just can’t.
