The book was good but slow until the last like 5 pages. The epilogue had be gasping, but not enough to immediately read the second book.

I enjoyed the Fated Mates trope and Jaren’s overall character, as well as Vera standing up for herself. Trey and Elric were great side characters and I appreciated their parts in the storyline

Book summary:
Vera is actually the Princess, was kidnapped, Jaren and her knew each other since they were kids, Prince Eithan is a psycho and ends up torturing Gibson and imprisoning Elric, the crystals are dying and the ”Fae” are losing their power, oh and Queens die quicker

This book was just the perfect amount of pacing, action, spice/tension, and character. It kept me wanting more, couldn’t put it down, which is how I finished it in a day. Also a lovely bit of a dark twist at the end I didn’t see coming, but set up what to expect for the next book, which I’ve already started. It was dual pov, but the audio only had one narrator, which they corrected for book two. <3

This book was definitely so-so. It felt like a combination of all the plot points and tropes I’ve read in the past year. Nothing in this book surprised me. To be honest it felt like a mashup of The Plated Prisoner Series by Raven Kennedy (which I loved) and What Lies Beyond The Veil by Harper L. Woods (which I did not love). Calling her “Little Star” and fated mates (WLBTV); befriending the guard, in love with a royal and a protective man of her same kind (PPS). It felt like everything was patch-worked together, and the flow choppy. I mean my favorite character was also the character that felt pointless. Why was Trey (her guard and only friend) necessary? Why did he have to travel with them? Because once the spicy stuff started to happen suddenly Trey was in the way and had to be abruptly sent away. (Which by the way felt very much like WLBTV and that MC’s brother. Utterly pointless.) Which Vera spent a lot of time trying to keep Jaren and Trey from fighting and keep Trey with her only to say see ya a split second later. And the villain of the story seems to think that this guard, who she’s know for a week, is more valuable to her than her adoptive father? Really? Jaren’s possessiveness is much more tolerable than other books I’ve read and I’m loving the idea of them being childhood friends.

Will I read the next book? I don’t know.

Untainted is an intelligent, humorous romantic fantasy novel. Vera is unlike many popular fmc’s, she’s already tough, knows what she wants, and takes it. I hope Trey figures his shit out and joins her in the sequel.
