I think this is the longest it’s taken me to finish a book, I had to drop it and read another book because I was just so bored
This was such a fun, well rounded YA fantasy novel with a hint of sci-fi!
I could really tell while reading that the author has so much love for their world and the two main characters. I found myself loving them more and more as I would real people while reading. What I also enjoyed was the fact that while most YA books are more heavy on the action and are sometimes a bit too fast-paced for me to get settled into the world, this was more focused on the political aspects of the world, and the personal connections between characters and their motives.
All in all, good fun all around! I do really hope my two babies get together again in the second book though.
And I swear, this author writes the cutest acknowledgements. The one at the end of this book really warmed my heart.

This book to me has too much going on. I skimmed a lot of this already short book. Maybe it just wasn’t the right time for me to read this but it felt like it was dragging on.
A lot of Ayla’s chapters could have been trimmed down to better devil other areas of her plot line that are central to the main story- like the human revolution being only her and her 5 friends and by the time we meet her it’s only the 3 of them. They didn’t do anything with her brother in this book, which I felt like they could have expanded upon more. Her whole journey is to get revenge for his death but sparsely shown how that impacts her choices. The only time it does is when she is trying to prove somthing to her rebellion friend and even then it’s a lie. I just felt like in this book we didn’t need her chapters to be that long and not have more new information that Crier already didn’t know. A lot of the main two interactions was Crier sharing what she knows and Ayla just thinking “oh our rebellion could use this” like girl.
The enemies to lovers is probably more prominent in the second book as at the end of this one it just started to get developed, now that the lines have been drawn in the sand so to speak at the end.
In this one it was just passing fancy of not deep attraction or longing but more surface level, at least on one side. For one of the love interests being a Cyborg that isn’t suppose to feel love or attraction it was set up as well as it could be- It was gradual from Criers end, the more she experienced the more it changed her behaviour and thinking patterns. Which was cool.
The ending of the book is a cliffhanger, so nothing got resolved and I don’t know if I’d want to read the sequel.

crier est la dumb lesbian rep que je méritais (j’espere que le tome 2 sort bientôt je vais vriller)
So, why didn't I read this sooner? I feel like this will be a running theme throughout this short review of Crier's War 😅
"If longing is madness, then none of us are sane."
All I knew before going into this book was: it's fantasy, and it's sapphic. That was all. So I was delighted to discover that it had more of a fantasy/sci-fi feel to it, there's alchemy within this world (FMAB has made me so excited whenever alchemy is mentioned elsewhere), and it explores the complex history, politics, and relationships between humans and the Automae.
We are introduced to both of these sides with Crier and Ayla as we explore their own ideals, opinions and worldviews not only as separate characters, but also how they both challenge these aspects for one another. I found the moments between them to be so tender and felt this electric charge between them, even though this book is just scratching the surface of their dynamic. Really, why didn't I read this sooner?!
I believe this duology is meant to be viewed together as this story feels like the calm before the storm. So, of course, I'll be starting it ASAP as I bought a physical copy of Book 2, but overall, I need to read more sapphic books because this was great!
If you're someone who likes to know book tropes: Slow burn romance, enemies to lovers, touch her and you die energy 👍
