Alright I was hooked after the artefacts of Ouranos series. So this has solidified that I will quite literally read anything by you. Zarya has been living with her not father, Row, and her not brother, Aarav, her entire life. When one day Row is missing and the magic binding her to the cottage is gone. The entire world hers to venture.
So much world building, Zarya is beyond fierce and hostile. But in the best way, I love her because of it. Yasen and Viktram are the best things to have happened to her. Less than 24 hours I read this book. Addictive for sure!

Quick easy read. Interesting magic system and plot. Felt very “convenient” and not a ton of chemistry between the FMC and who I assume is going to be the MMC. Most likely will continue the series on audio book as a walk to the library - “look there’s a bird” - “what did they say” - “oh well” - kinda book.

I really enjoyed this book.
In my opinion the main character Zarya was very well written, her perspective is immature and self-centered for about 2 thirds of the book, she doesn't take advice, thinks she knows better even when she's questioning her choices, has self-esteem issues (who doesn't) and is very angry (understandable), I think that the fact I find her so annoying is a really good tell that the author really put thought into how a girl that's been isolated from the world and kept in the dark about everything that matters to her would act once she is set free.

I really enjoyed the development of Zarya and how she little by little starts growing, learning how the world works, by the end she is far from mature and I don't expect her to make the best choices in the following books either, but she is 21years old so she has a lot of room to grow.

I really enjoyed how the people she befriended were kind, even when flawed they were not horrible people, all had their issues and motives but overall they were kind, I was expecting things to go really really bad and to be seriously let down by some of the characters I enjoyed and cared for, but I was pleasantly surprised to see they were just normal flawed peopleand not super effed up deceiving aholes.

I can't wait for the next few books to come out!

This is the first book in an epic fantasy series so there's lots of world building to get through. It makes the pace kind of slow but so worth it as a kick off to what I think will be an amazing series. It's lore is heavily based in culture and it's characters are POC - Great if you're looking for a fantasy read with diversity! More fantasy than romance (in this book), although there is a very tiny bit of spice.  The MFC is a badass with a strong will and the ability to deftly wield a blade. She is no damsel in distress waiting to be saved.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a chance to read this book. I read a lot of fantasy and while this wasn't at the top of the list for me, I did enjoy it. I really wanted to find out who Zarya actually was, but waiting until the very end was kind of frustrating. A definite mystery through most of these pages. I would absolutely pick up the second one on the hopes that even more action happens.
