Not my favourite writing from this author- parts felt shallow and under-developed- but I know she can do better and I’m intrigued enough by the story to read on

Thank you so much, Nisha and Second Sky, for providing me with an ARC of this AMAZING book. I would literally read your grocery list and beg for more.

The world building and magic system in this book is ~chefs kiss.~ I truly found myself invested in every little storyline because I couldn't predict what was coming!!! Even when I thought I had figured something out, I found out pages later that I was so, so wrong.

I have no idea how I'm supposed to wait for the next book. What's going to happen with the blight? Is being able to wield darkness actually a good thing? WHY IS RABIN PRETENDING HE DOESN'T LIKE HER?!

Also, I am a Yasen fan girl for life. I will not be taking any questions.

The way I ate this book up in ONE DAY!!!!

Can we give it up for strong FMC that can take care of themselves!!!
Absolutely obsessed with this book and everything in it. The way it kept twisting in different directions. Like it had the same feel of other fantasy stories and then it would twist and be completely different.
It feels unique and different but the same. Beautiful writing and world building. I can not express enough that this world and all the characters are brilliant.
I kept getting blindsided by different end results.. I FREAKING LOVE IT!!!

Excuse me whilenI dive into the second book with no hesitation.

NISHA!! Why are you always ending your books making me need to jump right to the next one?!?  Loved this, but I had an inkling that we would find something out about Zarya….cant wait to see what happens next!  Also I’d love if Rabin would stop being a jerk to her now that they’ve met 🤣. Give me some spice with their tension in book 2 please!!

Having enjoyed the other books I read from Nisha J. Tuli earlier this year, I was excited to try more. So I was intrigued to find out she had another ongoing series, The Nightfire Quartet. Heart of Night and Fire gets it off to a great start that is everything a first entry in a fantasy romance series should be.
The world building is intriguing, particularly the Indian and other South Asian mythological/cultural influences, particularly the incorporation of various creatures. The scope of the world and magic itself is also fairly vivid and tangible, making it fairly easy to grasp as I took in the story.
Zarya is an intriguing lead, starting off imprisoned with no idea of her origins, and longing for family and connection. I enjoyed watching her grow over the course of the book, as these things begin to change for her, with her discovering her history and making connections along the way.
As I’m learning is typical for Tuli, the plot and romance is a slower burn, with a lot of the pieces only being set up in this installment. Neither of the two potential love interests particularly wowed me, but there was an inkling of something that suggested who was meant to be endgame, so I’m curious how that will play out over the course of the series.
I enjoyed
This is a solid series starter, and I’m hopeful for how this series plays out. If you’re looking for an immersive fantasy romance/”romantasy” with South Asian influences, I’d recommend checking this out!

It is a fun book and it has a sequel!
So, i t took some time to get into the story, maybe I was suffering from reader's block after the other stuff I had been reading and I just... couldn't get interested in it. I had to read the first few chapters several times.
Once I got into it, then it flew by! there are demons, magic, drama, court drama, relationship drama, family drama, more magic, magic drama, a queen who is like a sentient tree and speaks through a mind bond with her Stewart, more magic. All of this covered in gorgeous Indian bling and delicious descriptions of food.
I have now started the second part :)
