Tuli does it AGAIN! The new queen of romantasy has ARRIVED!
Her world building is so amazing and the stories are so dynamic!
This book puts us straight into Zarya's vivid world full of gorgeous and refreshing Indian themes. It's a unique take on some of the favorite tropes (monsters, vampires, morally gray captors, slow burn romance, hello!) that you won't be able to put down! Zarya faces hard battles and even harder truths, but will it be enough?

***I received this book as an ARC for my honest review.***

Oh my goodness! I had night hopes going into this book because I LOVED Trial of the Sun Queen and Rule of the Aurora King and I was not disappointed!!

The FMC is strong and capable and I loved her sassy spirit. The found family vibes were *chefs kiss* and while I wouldn’t say this is an enemies to lovers book, it’s set up to be that way in the next one and I’m ready for it.

The action was top notch as well! A lot happens in this book but it was paced perfectly and I loved every twist and turn.

This ending was really satisfying as well. A lot was wrapped up nicely and explained but it leaves you wanting more! I can’t wait to see where this story goes!

Looking for your next romantasy obsession? Don't sleep on Nisha J. Tuli. Between this book and the Artefacts of Ouranos Series, she's definitely an auto-read author for me.

Heart of Night and Fire has a unique and compelling concept with great characters and character dynamics. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and it even broke me out of a weeks-long slump, but it felt like it was missing a little something for me. That said, while this wasn't a 5 star read for me on its own, Heart of Night and Fire establishes a great basis for Zarya's story, and I can't wait to see where things go from here.

Read for:

- Secluded/Sheltered FMC experiencing life outside her "neck of the woods" for the first time.
- Found family
- Complex family dynamics
- Visits from a mysterious dream man
- Incredibly unique monarchy system

--- 3.5/5 stars

Ohhh intrigued to see where this goes!

ARC review

Firstly, really interesting world and definitely a nice change of scenery from a lot of fantasy I read that is rather western inspired. There was a lot to take in, in the first third and I found myself highlighting parts to remember all the different places and types of magical beings. (This was an ARC version so not sure what will be in the final published copy, but really feel the book needs a map and a glossary) Visually it’s a great read though and I really feel I could picture a lot of the magical places.

The FMC, Zarya. I really liked that she was a bit of badass and could keep out with these trained soldiers. Was she at points a bit stupid and delusional? Yes. But she had been trapped in cage for the majority of her life, so will cut her some slack.

The wider characters… Loved the developing friendships and the found family vibes. I particularly liked her bestie development with one of the characters! I think there’s also really good potential with Rabin as well. My only frustration, was that he came in so late and now we have to wait for the next book.

There’s not a tonne of romance and spice in this book but you can see that the series will head that way!

Overall a 4 ⭐️ read for me as it felt like a great set up with room to do a lot more in the next books. Can’t wait!

Thank you to Netgalley and Second Sky for providing the e-arc in exchange for a honest review of this book.

After finishing this book, I felt plenty of contrasting emotions. I’m a huge fan of Nisha’s Artfefacts of Ouranos Series and I can’t wait to read the rest of it, but Heart of Night and Fire didn’t win my heart like I was expected. However it wasn’t disappointing, I really love the complex universe that Nisha built inspired to Indian mythology (I was really curious about that, this is why I wanted to read this book so bad).
About the characters, they displayed a lot of potential, Zarya and Rabin more than anyone, and I can’t wait to see how their relationship develops. For the records, Yasen is my fav. If something bad happen to him in the next books, I’m gonna cry my eyes out for years.

In conclusion, even if it might not have been the engaging fantasy journey I had hoped for, HONAF did succeed in offering several captivating moments, mainly when it comes to its plot twists. Am I gonna read the sequel? Of course, there are promises that it might be huger than this one and I’m really curious to know how Zarya’s journey continues.

Such a colorful world. Walks the line between YA and Adult. Found myself saying "oooh kiss him... no kiss him.... actually kiss him", so many love interest potential. I did see the twists coming, but I still enjoyed the story. I think if you liked the Red Queen series you will like this.

Low quality, young adult, writing that distracted from the storyline. It felt like the author was doing more telling than showing. I love her other series and really wanted to get into this book. I tried twice and couldn’t get past 27%. It felt like I was reading a list of facts and was trying to remember them all instead of being immersed in a story.

Star: 4.5/5

This is such a great first entry in Nisha J. Tuli’s newest series, the Nightfire Quartet! Tuli expertly weaves elements of Indian mythology throughout what will surely be a hit series.

This novel follows main character Zarya as she breaks out of her prison, embarks on a journey of self-discovery, and somehow manages to create a family for herself in the bleakest of times. This main character is not afraid to be vulnerable while also possessing a strength of character necessary to survive in a world over-taken by demons.

This first entry in this series focuses less on romance and more on building strong friendships and learning more about oneself. Once you read through, you’ll understand the importance of setting up this base family unit for Zarya. There is romance with the MMC, in the second half of this book, and the tension is absolutely delicious.

You won’t see some of the reveals coming at the end of this book coming, and it’ll make you so eager to pick up book 2!! Now that I’ve read this early, I don’t know how I’m going to wait so long for the next book!
