After finishing the Artefacts of Ouranos series, I was eager to jump into another quartet by Nisha J. Tuli and I can say that Heart of Night and Fire did not disappoint. The world that Tuli has created with Dharati is unique, enchanting, and pure magic. As with many fantasy settings, I am bummed that I cannot travel there to experience it for myself. Zaraya is a great sassy FMC who you are rooting for from page one as you want to learn more about her story and what magic potential she wields. The first book leaves off on the type of cliffhanger that makes me very glad that book two is already out. Cannot wait to continue reading more of this series!

This is a solid book 1 of 4. The world building, expanding in the magic system, introducting the main players of the plot... It was an interesting and unique read in the BEST way! I love that this kept me guessing, and there were still surprises to be had. Starting book two TODAYYY

I enjoyed the set-up of this story. This whole mystery with Zarya’s past intrigued me. How did she put up with being confined to one space her entire life? No one ever told her why she had to be hidden away. So my need for answers did get me more irritated the further into the book I got. If you can tough it out through the frustration, it is a pretty fun ride.
I really liked Zarya and I liked learning more about everyone. I liked their interactions and seeing her friendships grow. It was a slow burn book for me, not really in a good way, unfortunately, as I found my attention waning for a lot of the daily happenings. But the fun fantasy elements pulled me back in, and the story went in different directions that I was not expecting. I’m not sure I necessarily loved the final reveals and ending, but I’m invested in the characters and will happily continue the series.
I listened to the audiobook and I really liked Shiromi Arserio’s narration. Plus all of the food descriptions had me salivating. I clearly need more POC fantasy books in my life. This was the rare South Asian romantasy treat and the world needs more of this.

3.5 ⭐️
This story was really fun and exciting. It’s fast paced and action packed. There were no slow parts in this story. I feel like the plot has a lot of promise for the remaining 3 books but did leave a bit to be desired.
I felt like the transition between scenes was kinda choppy and didn’t necessarily flow coherently. I also feel like there were a lot of things introduced and then forgotten about (the book for example.) Even the ending felt like there were a lot of loose ends. It didn’t really end on a cliffhanger either which usually has me aching for the next book. I wish there was more here.
I still enjoyed reading this one and am hoping the next books give the characters a little more depth, the flow improves and we get a few more answers regarding a lot of things introduced in book 1!
