The prose was lovely, the characters were memorable, the twists were shocking, but good lord so much of it was so miserable to read. If you're looking at this book wondering if you should give it a shot despite the length, be prepared for a good 75% of the book to be nonstop torture and bad things happening with little to no reprieve in between. Truly by the end I just wanted to finish it so I could see the ending and then read something more lighthearted.

No tengo idea de lo que acabo de leer pero solo puedo decirles que me gustó mucho, me atrapó por completo la historia, está llena de intrigas, personajes complejos, emociones intensas.
Creo que no era necesario que fuera una novela tan extensa, pero a la vez entiendo que sea así por las descripciones tan absorbentes que hace la autora.
Ahora quiero leer todo lo que ha escrito Sarah Waters.

Not quite a 5 star read for me, as I had some issues with the pacing and the last few chapters felt particularly rushed.
Also, the ending left me frustratingly wanting just a little bit more. Give me a few more hours with these characters, don't leave it like that!

But the characters, the plot, the setting - really enjoyed all of that. Even though I had seen the Korean film adaptation years before, I couldn't remember how it ended - and the story kept me guessing right until the last. Would love to read more in this world.
