Great twists! Terrible people! Much cruelty! (This was well done, but I didn’t like it.)

2019! How satisfying the start to this year has been, finished this almost 600-page epic set in the Victorian era.

Divided in three parts, Fingersmith is the story of two young girls, whose fates are linked when they are just babies. Both of them are drawn into a twisted tale of others' making. Young fingersmith Susan Trinder travels to Briar from London to take up duties as a maid to Lady Maud Lilly. Sue only wants to swindle Maud at the behest of the charming Gentleman - a sophisticated thief who has hatched a sinister plot. Oh, but there are so many twists and turns in store!

If you love reading Victorian novels, this one is a true masterpiece. Waters' writing is engaging and simple and the story she weaves is multi-faceted. The two big twists at the end of the first two parts are shocking and compel you to keep reading. Throw in a forbidden love story in the mix and what you get is a pot-boiler! A true page-turner this one. Don't miss out!

This book had probably the best plot twist I’ve ever read (or listened to in my case)! Let me tell you, this book does not go the way you think it will. This is my second Sarah Waters book and I just want to devour everything she’s written! Onto Tipping the Velvet next!!!

5/5 stars! You don’t want to miss this one.

My second favorite book ever.
Don’t see that changing any time soon. A treasure placed delicately by Sarah Waters into the palm of every queer girl. Thank you, Waters

Quite good. Was kind of expecting a bit more from it though.
