I really tried to enjoy this.

This is, after all, the book that led me to abandon this series so many years ago. Now I can say I've finally made it through it!

But it was SUCH a struggle. I almost didn't finish it.

I didn't really care about Marcellus or Etheldredda. She didn't even seem all that threatening or scary. I think it's hard to write for this audience while keeping the attention of older readers. Sure, it's not written specifically for older readers such as myself, but I'd like to pretend I could still enjoy the series. I think it's losing me, though.

There is some kind of emotional disconnect between all the Heap siblings. Outside of a few, none of them seem to care about any of the others. Some kids are conveniently missing from the story. Pivotal events from previous stories (like uh, the princess was kidnapped??) aren't even addressed, nobody thinks about them...it's like they didn't happen. Nobody even mentions Simon being evil anymore. The parents don't even hardly notice Septimus and oh, 3 or so of their other kids are MISSING IN ANOTHER TIME until they've al,let come back. There's no seamless transition from book to book anymore, just rigidly segmented different stories. Hmmm.

Might have to take a break before the next one.

I like that this one went in a totally new direction! // Four years later I enjoyed listening to in the car with my kid. A good audio book for drives around town.

Another fun adventure for Septimus Heap! I loved the villain in this one because she was so despicable and awful and mean. And for the name Queen Etheldredda, what a great name for her!

Anyway, Septimus goes back in time in this one, so that made for some fun.

This is a reread for me, but the first time I'm listening to the audiobook, and I just remember finding this book is so good, and it held up. I'm such a big fan of this whole series, and going through it again is just reminding me how charming it is. Also, I'm realizing that my eldest nephew is finally old enough to read these books, which I gave him my copies of. I'm so excited for him to hop into this series and enjoy the magic.

Honestly, to most I have to say about this book is that is as still charming as I remember, and I feel like the plot of this book is better than the one before, but I can't remember the rest of the series. In my head, everything is one big book, and I forget the order. Everything that happened in this book really stood out though. I actually thought this all happened later.

I'm really excited to finish the series again, and I'm just in love with it as I was before.

I am starting to get suspicious that I'm not the target audience of this book series...

This is probably my favorite Septimus Heap book so far. I thought after the last one that maybe I would stop after this one, but I felt like this one was good enough that I will continue on with the series as I find the other books in second hand shops. I think these books are clever and have a sense of humor, but they're also a bit dark for a children's series. Certainly, they're entertaining

This is the 3rd book in the septimus heap series. It was not as good as the first two books, but it wasn't bad. We have now departed from the basic characterization of the main characters, to seeng life as earn everyday experience. The book begins with Silas Heap opened up a sealed room and letting a substantial ghost out who tricks Jenna into sending Septimus back 500 years in time through a mirror. The book is a series of events that are the path of discovering lost secrets, find I and bringing septimus back, learning about the characters strengths and flaws, and about their love for each other. Already, we have the beginning of 4th books story as we have left two characters 500 years in the past who did not make it back and also he link or connection between snorri and her cat. I will still keep reading the series, but I am not dying to reading them and it might be awhile.

This series has been intriguing. I enjoyed this volume slightly less than the first two, but I definitely want to keep reading the series.
