Aren the man you are!!!! 😍

Even though l'm not a big fantasy reader, I ate this book up!! The worldbuilding and politics were surprisingly easy to follow, and the story kept me hooked.
The romance was my favorite part (because of course - I'm a romance girly), the ultimate slow burn and enemies-to-lovers was done so well. Lara and Aren's relationship was full of tension and growth. I loved both the main characters and how they evolved and came to trust each other, never mind the ending of the book. Aren is fair, kind, and forgiving and I felt that his kindness affected Lara and made her kinder in return.

Plus other big highlight is the scenery and stormy weather, it made me feel so cozy throughout the reading.
The book wasn't perfect— felt the middle dragged a bit and could ve been shorter-but overall, it really surprised me. And ended up on a huge cliffhanger?!?! Can't wait to read the next book of the series

Picked up the book even tho I was a little skeptical with the cover. There were things I liked about it - the politics of the world is interesting, there were side characters I liked, and the world building pulled me in. But there wasn’t enough focus on that to make up for the fact that I could not get into the two main characters or buy their chemistry. By the end of the book i felt a bit more invested and enjoyed Lara’s character more - I enjoyed her character enough that i might read the second book but *spoilers* that’s mostly because the set up seems to have things a lot more focused on the politics of the world since it seems the main characters are going to be separated. And I’m feeling like I likely won’t pick up the second book mostly as if that’s the goal then I think I might find it hard to root for. Overall there’s definitely some sparks of really good stuff here but the leads couldn’t carry the story for me.
