Okay, this book was pretty good. At first I wasn't sure I would like it, since I read [b:Fahrenheit 451|13079982|Fahrenheit 451|Ray Bradbury|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1383718290l/13079982._SY75_.jpg|1272463] last year for school, but I had a hard time reading it, which was disappointing since I really liked most of [a:Ray Bradbury|1630|Ray Bradbury|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1445955959p2/1630.jpg]'s short stories. But [b:1984|9577857|1984|George Orwell|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1504611957l/9577857._SX50_.jpg|153313] was by a different author, and I also read [b:Animal Farm|170448|Animal Farm|George Orwell|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1325861570l/170448._SY75_.jpg|2207778] for school as well and loved that book.

Anyways, all I have to say is wow. It really makes you think about the dangers of what a government like what was shown in the book could do. The last few chapters made me cheer for Winston and hoping he could fight through of all what the Party was trying to force him to believe. I thought it was also neat but disturbing with Newspeak and how the Party was literally rewriting the english language, basically trying to dumb people down, in my opinion. The only thing that really bothered me was the whole thing between Winston and Julia, I mean, they have a fifteen year age gap.

This is my first time actually doing a through review, but hey, all I'm trying to say is do try this book if you have a chance. Compared to [b:Animal Farm|170448|Animal Farm|George Orwell|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1325861570l/170448._SY75_.jpg|2207778], it doesn't right-out say that communism should be avoided, but you can definitely infer it. One of the best dystopian books I've read, and believe me, I've read a lot of dystopian novels.

Very politically relevant in the themes of surveillance, spreading of misinformation and attempts to control public opinions through media.
However, at times, in act 2 especially, I felt it dragged.
Act 3 had me hooked. It was nervy, tense and unsettling at times, but I couldn't put it down

Great but devastatingly hopeless end.
