Delved far too much into a fantasy of murder and rape from the protagonists point of view. Given i already knew the major plot beats of the story. I therefore couldn't find a way to empathise with the citizens living under big brother's bootheel

"Their embrace had been a battle, the climax a victory. It was a blow struck against the Party. It was a political act."
This book was recommended to me by one of my friends; it's his favorite book. It took me five years to pick it up, but I am so glad I finally did! This book deserves all the praise it gets. I was so surprised by how much I liked it, especially since I didn't really like Orwell's Animal Farm.
"The best books... are those that tell you what you know already.."
Although it might be exaggerated, the world described in 1984 is terrifyingly similar to today's reality. What's even scarier, or maybe it is rather funny, really, is how aware we are of our reality and how we just simply...accept it. It truly makes you ponder upon humanity's future.
"Nothing was your own except the few cubic centimeters inside your skull."
A must-read for everyone.
