One of my all-time favorite books. My mother begged me to read it while I was in high-school, but I never did. When I finally did read it in my late 20s or early 30s, I was blown away by it. I think that if I HAD read it as a teenager, I wouldn't have gotten much out of it, though.
All too relevant at the moment for my tastes, but it bears a re-read, I think.

I read this book many years before 1984 and it's scary how much of it is now part of our daily lives! It's probably time for a re-read!

An extremely detailed account of a paranoid version of the future, this book, or long essay, took me a while to trudge through. When the story finally got to when they were endlessly torturing him, it was actually quite terrifying and haunting. I could picture and almost feel Winston’s personal version of hell. It was also frustrating when they were brainwashing him, it angered me to think that there are powers in the world that would use their influence and resources to simply take power over people for the sake of having power. Seems pointless, and frustrated me page after page.
Overall I would describe my experience with this novel as annoying, delving into every corner of a paranoid mind. It was interesting to think of when this was written, his fears seem much more understandable.

I had read it before but listening to the Audible presentation brought a whole new layer to this chilling story! Highly recommend.

Oh Big Brother. That third act is intense. I loved it and think it is still just as relevant today as it has ever been. We can't embrace doublespeak and the elimination of individual thought, love, and meaning.
