written in a fun way, lighthearted but not handwaving the weight of the dark events, not dripping of regret but a retelling acknowleding the fucked up parts without dwelling on it and reflecting with lessons learnt from it. Quite an inspiring perspective.

And a gateway to learning about the diverse culture of South Africa.

I read This book in one day. Trevor Noah is so much more than just a comedian. His story of his account of being a mixed race young man in South Africa and really being seen as a crime since the day he was born. His stories are wild, intriguing and I couldn't put this down!

I listened to the audio version of this book and laughed through the entire thing! Trevor Noah is a great storyteller and I recommend this book to anyone who likes memoirs about serious shit mixed with comedy.

"People say all the time that they’d do anything for the people they love. But would you really? Would you do anything? Would you give everything? I don’t know that a child knows that kind of selfless love. A mother, yes. A mother will clutch her children and jump from a moving car to keep them from harm. She will do it without thinking. But I don’t think the child knows how to do that, not instinctively. It’s something the child has to learn."

This is one of the best memoirs I've ever read. A page turner! I need to meet his mom lol! She's such a strong, wise, incredible woman.
