*Digital Arc received from Wednesday Books in exchange for an honest review*
UPDATE:

Reading this arc during the 2020 election was by far the best choice! A continuation of Fable’s high seas adventure riddled with more animosity, longing for a parent’s love and affirmation, a pinch of spicy romance, and enough betrayal and secrets to keep the telenovela lovers in all of us satisfied, Namesake earns its title through Fable’s own blood and tears.

While I do enjoy a decent steamy romance, I adjusted my expectations quite quickly when I realized this novel is not about Fable and West. Or rather, it’s about them, but the relationship focus and goal for Fable is about defining family. Whether it’s through blood or the family you find and choose (represented through many ensemble characters and groups), Fable’s true quest is to find her place and her people.

I’d say she succeeds.

Home is where we make it. Family is whoever we choose it to be.

I’d say that’s a solid theme to rally around in 2021. ✌

I loved this series. However, this book felt a little less fulfilling than Fable. I can't quite put it into words. I still loved Fable and West, the way their relationship continued to play out. It didn't change much in the way I kind of expected it to, but I still enjoyed reading about them. I wish the ending could have fleshed out the drama between the crew a little more solidly, to be honest. The crew was so angry, and then they just....werent. There's just so much more to be told in Fable's world, what with her parents stories and the way things change after Namesakes ending, that this book just left me unsatisfied.
All of that aside, Adrienne Young is an amazing writer. I couldn't put the book down and the pacing was really well done. I would still recommend this book in a heartbeat.

Thanks to a fellow booknerd who told me this book was available as a direct-read on NetGalley I got my hands on it straightaway.

I had just bought Fable so obviously had to read that one first. And where I wrote in my review on the first book that it started off a bit slow and then rushed towards the end and left me wanting more, Namesake dives right in and picks up where things were left in Fable.

The pace is quick, the excitement is real and I absolutely love Fable and the world she lives in.
A lot of characters from the first book reappear in the second one.

However much I love the world Adrienne Young has built, and how much I like Fable... to me it wasn't clear what the plot was and where the story was going. It sometimes felt a bit like there were way more ideas/stories to be told but were either edited out or just not written.

This is a book that makes you think about what you would do for family, bloodbound or chosen. Which I really liked.
There is romance, but I just didn't get West. I couldn't connect to him at all, couldn't pin point what he was all about.

All in all I really liked this duology but in a way I hope there will be some side stories about some of the other characters to maybe get a little bit more of a complete story feel.
