this duology was actually good but the pacing was off and my main issue is that somehow the entirety of the first book and the first ~half of this one read like the beginning of one VERY GOOD fantasy novel but was ultimately a bit of a let down. like it built up the world and the characters and motivation and it felt like we were on the verge of something so good -- until about ~80% of the way in to the first book, i felt like we were still setting the scene for a beautiful interesting world, and then i realized that somehow the plot was supposed to wrap up in the next like 50 pages which was troubling . basically i think it could have been so great but then the actual "plot" that somehow all occurs in the last third of each book is so fast and rushed and not that ambitious, it felt like the plot was building up for something much more sweeping and large and then it felt like a let down each time.
this really disappointed me :( i loved the first book but the west and saint of it all in this one did not work for me

Ganz nette Seemannsgeschichte, aber irgendwie sind das nicht meine Art von Geschichten, diese zählt aber definitiv zu den besseren. Wenn man wie ich morally grey Charaktere liebt ist man hier sehr gut aufgehoben.
