To be honest not my fav Discworld book, it is a lot less funny then others to me, and the theme of war felt better handled in Jingo. I found the side characters under used specially Igor(ina) and Jade the troll.  I adore Jackrum through, I really do.

This is a perfectly acceptable send-up of military fantasy. As usual, Pratchett is allergic to anything resembling a feeling, does not really care to understand existence as a minority, completely ignores the realities of pregnancy and pretty much everything related to bodies, and manages middling humor. Done far better by other authors.
