What this book did to/for me:

-Made me stop, put it down, and sob.
-Prompted me to look up article after article, interview after interview, anything and everything having to do with Michelle Knight and her fellow hostages.
-Made me fall in love with Michelle Knight, as a person, a survivor, a human being who is now putting her energy into activism and art.

Was it beautifully written, articulate, with elegant prose? No. Did it answer all my questions about this horrific true story? No. Did it leave me feeling bruised and distrustful? Yes.

I'm glad I read it, if only to feel something--compassion, revulsion, horror, hope, and relief. I wish Michelle the best--she deserves every good thing that comes her way.

I don't feel comfortable rating this book. This is a memoir of one of the most horrible events I've ever read about. Michelle Knight had a horrible childhood and an even more horrible captivity. This woman is stronger than I could ever imagine being. She is a real warrior. It was hard to read this book, as Michelle was pretty straightforward about what happened to her. Even more horrifying is the fact that she kept the details of the worst of the "dude's" rapes to herself (after she was abducted, she refused to use Ariel Castro's name because he was no longer human to her). I can't even imagine what he did to her and the other two woman, Amanda and Gina.

The novel does end on a happier note, with Michelle learning to be free again and the support she's gotten. I hope that she continues to do well in her new life.

Michelle Knight was abducted and held prisoner in a home in my city of Cleveland. She spoke today at a fundraiser for a rape crisis center and did a book signing. I read her book yesterday so I would be more familiar with her story and I could get the book signed when I met her.

WOW! I usually do not read memoirs or biographies, but I couldn't put her book down. You can tell that she wrote the book herself because of the wording and it is her real account of her abusive childhood, her abduction, and her imprisonment for over a decade. I was planning on just scanning the book, but I was unable to put it down! I just kept reading and reading. It is completely horrifying to think that a person would have to endure all the abuses and rapes she did. I just can't imagine living in fear like she did.

She is a true survivor and such an inspiring person!

This book was a real eye-opener and I would highly recommend it. What she was put though is very disturbing, so just be prepared to be shocked.
