I'm sorry, but the layers of duplicity are too murky for the likes of me. The end way too complicated.

I read this book after seeing the author featured on Fareed Zakaria's foreign affairs show, Global Public Square. Pretty good book, but not great. The story, regarding CIA work in Pakistan, is timely and authentic. The author, a journalist, clearly knows the region and the issues well, but is not at all heavy-handed with his knowledge. The characters are a little flat, but intelligently drawn. Fine beach reading, and broadly illuminating about the challenges of dealing with Pakistan. Most of all, the reader comes away with an appreciation of the vast complexity of our relationship with Pakistan and its security service.
