This is a very diverse set of short stories that tells of the impacts of immigration from China on various families living in New York. It was definitely disturbing at points, but overall reflected an experience I think a lot of people can resonate with. A sense of alienation from family, from homeland, and from understanding pervades this book. The stories are filled with love, but a love that is sometimes lost in translation and our desires to provide a better life for those we love.
