This book really snuck up on me. I first picked it up in a small bookstore in Chicago, intrigued by the cover and the Irish names of the characters. I've enjoyed the contemporary Irish novels I've read, and I wanted to support an independent bookstore (and a small publisher), so I bought it. This is definitely a character-driven novel; the plot is minimal. But as you learn each character's story in bits and pieces, they draw you in and come alive.
Moderate: Abortion and Cancer
Minor: Alcoholism, Homophobia, and Religious bigotry
