Good book, different part of mystery where the focus is primaril  on Adam than switching to the perspective of the suspects. I am not sure that I like Adam all that much. I don't dislike him but he is too indecisive about his personal life.

What I love about this is you know the bad guy. You genuinely do. But she does such a good job of convincing you otherwise that you fall for it and in the end you look back and you are like... wait what????

Her writing is quite different from Christie's. James gives each of her characters depth and enough space in the book so that it becomes almost life-like, the setting, the story, to us readers.
I loved the beginning, and the setting of this novel, especially how I came to know much more about Dalgliesh. But the end was a bit disappointing, not bad, just a bit sad. Still, the novel is worth a read. And would make you want to visit the coastal town of Suffolk.

Adam Dagliesh tries, unsuccessfully, to take a break from investigations and visit his aunt. However, the neighbors have other ideas and Dagliesh finds himself drawn into an investigation reluctantly. Well plotted and paced, another good entry in the Adam Dagliesh series.

This was a neat one. I had read one other Adam Dalgliesh mystery and wasn't blown away, but I think I liked this more. Despite having been published in the 60s, it really has that golden-age-mystery feel to it, with the little town and the interesting set of character, any one of whom could have done it.... The twist was good-- although I was able to guess a decent amount of it, the reveal was still satisfying. The atmosphere was great and the pieces came together well.
