Kasie West

3.7 AVERAGE

Another adorable read from Kasie West.
This one follows Avery over a summer of challenging herself following a betrayal by her best friend. Her family ends up going for an extended vacation at a mountain resort, and yes it feels shades of Dirty Dancing, which also gets name dropped in the story. There she meets a band and it’s guitarist, Brooks. Avery agrees to help the band with writing a song, and she discovers, or rediscovers, her love of music and embarks on a new relationship with Brooks.
This story was quintessential Kasie West. I loved the addition of a sisterly dynamic, with Avery and Lauren. And it was a true sibling dynamic with the over protective older sister (Avery) and the slightly annoying, slightly favored, slightly bratty younger sister (Lauren). While they had typical sisterly conflict, they also had the beautifully supportive sisterly bond.
Brooks and Avery’s relationship developed from a deal/need for help from each other to truly learning about each other and forming a deep understanding of their lives and goals.
I loved Avery’s arc and how she learned to find her passion and voice. And how Brooks slowly started to think of a future that he wanted and see a way to improve his relationship with his mom.
Also the band boys, especially Kai, were really fun additions to the story and Avery developed what felt like true friendship with Maricella.

I love Kasie West books. A couple of her books are ones that I will go back and read again and again but this book for me fell a little flat. I love reading summer books and this one is very light hearted but I didnt love it like I have her other books.

Family goes away to summer camp, a singing competition, and young love

this was SUCH A CUTE ya summer romance. i absolutely LOVED the nostalgic effect this book had on me. it was such an easy listen (audiobook). i don't have anything bad to say about this one, a perfect and lighthearted summer read!

This is my first beach read of the summer. I'm a fan of Kasie West's books. Besides being a light-hearted read it also addressed finding your passion, family relationships, being courageous and speaking up for yourself.

Heartwarming, relaxing, inspiring, beautiful read!

It was okay but I have liked other books of her better.

i have loved Kasie West for years & i will read literally anything she writes tbh…this was no exception!

this book was super cute and even though it was YA it was written in the perfect way that wasn’t cringey or too young which i was so glad about. i love all the characters we meet, especially seeing how they interact and grow. the story and romance were perfect and some of these scenes had me smiling so hard!!

It is time for summer vacation and Avery’s parents decided to go big. They booked the family for two months in a family camp where there is no cell service and no Wi-Fi. This is hard to adjust to, but Avery soon finds a distraction in an off-limits staff member. Avery feels this is the best opportunity to try new things and test the boundaries of what her parents had planned for her. Will a summer romance be in Avery’s future? What limits will Avery stretch as she explores who she is?

Sunkissed is a stand-alone young adult romance that was a pleasure to read. This was a very fun experience because romance was not the main focus. There was the coming of age theme, building friendships and sibling issues weaved together. The journey before Avery becomes more than she expects and the outcome will leave readers glad they invested the time in the book. Sunkissed is a fun escape read that will appeal to readers of all ages.

3.5 stars. This was a cute, fairly clean romance for teens. 17 year-old Avery travels with her family to an internet-free camp for the summer. There she meets Brooks, who works at the camp doing various jobs, including playing in the dinner band. Fraternizing with guests is off limits, but Avery agrees to help Brooks with lyrics for an upcoming band competition and they end up spending a lot of time together. The story was pretty good, but it felt too long and some of the characters were a bit flat. An overall enjoyable read, but not the author's best work.
