This was so much Dirty Dancing meets High School Musical?? My friend Maya said that when Kasie was done watching Netflix for ideas, she switched to Disney+ and there is no better way to describe this book. Still kinda liked it though.

Sunkissed is about a girl named Avery who is on a family vacation to a remote camp for the summer. There is no wifi or cell service which is perfectly fine for Avery after she was recently betrayed by her best friend. At the camp she has to deal with the great outdoors but also a cute off limit camp staff member, and her ever present sister. After an accident, Avery is set on an unexpected course to figure out what she really wants.

No but the way this was LITERALLY Dirty Dancing and High School Musical 2 almost sent me off the deep end. Mix those with random scenes of camp / outdoor summer stuff / depressing backstory for the love interest and I have decided to pass away.

This book was so lighthearted and sweet though and I did enjoy it!! It was like eating crack, if I knew what eating crack felt like?? The romance was cute and the ending was nice. I didn't mind how predictable or cheesy it was because everyone needs some crack now and then don't you think? The summer vibes were unmatched but personally I hate summer and the outdoors and there is no way I am ever doing any of this, including singing in front of large crowds or falling in love with a guy in a BAND. (If that is your type that is f i n e but no thank you I simply do not mess with musicians.)

But while this book is lighthearted it throws in a tragic backstory for the love interest and it was so out of pocket I screamed.
SpoilerHis mom has to work two jobs and he has to work extra hard because his father had a stroke and is in a nursing home they can't afford. The reason he needs to win the competition so bad is because of that??? Like you don't need some guilt ass reason to want to win you can just say you want to win because you want to and worked hard but go off with this tiny tim shit I guess.

I liked the family vibes even though in classic YA fashion, the MC goes behind their backs and doesn't talk to them until the last moment after everything blows up. I loved Avery's sister Lauren (hey Kasie give her a book maybe?) and I really liked Avery's friendship with the staff members. Would sit at a campfire with them. Then there was Avery's best friend who kissed her ex bf when Avery still thought they would get back together and I just?? What was the point?
SpoilerShe literally forgives her??? No thanks.

I tried listening to this on audiobook but I made it 27% and had no idea what was going on so I had to restart the book with my own eyeballs. It was probably for the best though because the narrator had the most child sounding voice, it hurt.

But I hadddd the time of my lifeeee. (Not really but three stars & goodnight.)
