DNF. I stopped this audiobook after 40 minutes. It did not hold my interest at all and my attention kept wandering. I agree with some of the other reviewers who said that most of the time you can’t tell what is the author’s point. Some of the reviews indicate that a few of the later chapters are better, but I just can’t continue with this one. Too many on my TBR list.

There are some interesting things here that I didn't know, but much of it seems like something most anyone could have picked up through popular culture references. Even over the past few years. I still enjoyed it.

3 stars overall, but I really enjoyed listening to the first two-thirds of this.

As a child of the 90s, I enjoyed the nostalgia from this book. I could relive childhood events with my current sage-like wisdom. It is my favorite decade.

However, I approach any historical analysis that paints with "collective experiences" with caution. I understand there are some universal outcomes from history, but Klosterman might have taken some liberties on how they were perceived by the individuals. I want my history articulated with more individualistic experiences, not newspaper headlines and box office numbers.

Shoot, maybe I need to read Klosterman's other work.

The warning signs appeared in the first chapter and throughout with the appearance of words I find irksome: "zeitgeist," "viewed through the prism of..." and "verboten." This is more a reflection of me than the book.
