I was almost dreading this book. The title itself evokes nothing but unnerving misfortune and I am afraid it plays out that way. But this book is a gem. Crafted as a “heist/thriller” genre book, it is so much more than that. The care and meticulousness in crafting the character of Bug, mean that this is a novel that succeeds in exploring the search for one’s “true self”. Not quite a debut novel but almost. An extraordinary one at that.

SA Cosby is such a fun writer. This book took a few zigs when I was expecting zags and is pretty much non-stop action after the heist. Good shit.

Really good read. A pull no punches homage to American noir that has you rooting for the bad guy you hope can be good.

A classic crime novel, very reminiscent of old-school paperbacks. Chandler, Chase etc. Great writing and a very unique style. Makes each sentence lyrical and poetic, while never straying from the story. It's not self indulgent writing, is what I mean. Some of the sub plots felt dated to me, we've seen these a million times. So don't expect something novel but expect an old story, told very well.
