The title story was easily my favorite, and would lead me to recommend the entire series of short stories for that take alone.
Whoa. This author has the craziest imagination. These stories were all really different from each other, but the same in that I just kept thinking..."who could think this up?". I already have "Swamplandia!" on reserve at the library.
My favorites of this collection by far: "Reeling for the Empire" and "Proving Up"

Favorite stories included “Reeling for the Empire”, “The New Veterans”, and “The Barn at the End of Our Term” — this collection was delicious and captivating.

A collection of short stories that never seemed to have a good ending. Most started out fine but I never really felt satisfied by the ending and it always caught me by surprise. I was expecting more.
The second story about the silk worm women was the only one that really worked for me. I genuinely enjoyed it and I loved the narrator

The stories were good but just ended abruptly and disoriented.
