I learned of the horrible Golden State Killer around 2016 or 2017. I couldn’t believe the case was still unsolved & it was SO exciting to hear of his arrest very soon after!! Paul Holes is a hero!!!!!! I liked this book, it’s very raw & real, and I’m grateful for how Paul acknowledges the victims he’s met throughout his gruesome career. Go Paul!

Paul Holes does not pull punches and the content he goes over is definitely not for everyone. It is a very interesting story that goes through his career as a detective, specifically dealing with the Golden State Killer who is known to be a serial rapist/killer. Paul goes through details of how the victims were found, their statements of those who survived their encounter, and the science behind what eventually lead them to the guy responsible for so much destruction of life.

I FREAKING LOVED THIS BOOK. As a fan of true crime and crime documentaries this was amazing. I felt like i was listening to a crime documentary and the suspense was chefs kiss. I love how the author made the reader feel like they were there in the moment.

Starts off slow with a lot of exposition on Paul’s early life and career but picks up and becomes more engaging about halfway through.

First things first, I greatly enjoyed learning about all of the cases that Paul Holes had been apart of. He had such a profound impact on some many cases including GSK and he is one in a million when it comes to solving cases. And, I was truly amazed by how open and honesty he was about his own life and mental health issues! I’m not sure why this book just didn’t click for me. There were points that were very easy to read and others that I was dredging through just to finish it. For that reason alone I have to give the book a 3.5.
