New to me author. This is a mm short story, just the epilogue. Story was about Mick and Archie. Not really enough to say one way or the other if I like this contemporary story.

Don’t have much to say about this one except I was a little bored. I’m thinking it’s just me though, the headspace I’m in. So I’ll have to reread another time.

Loved it! Such a cute story...simple and sweet. Absolutely loved the office scene with Gabe and the cameo by Dylan. Might be time for yet another re-read of book one!

Quintessential Lily Morton - just in a smaller package! 3 Dates is a wonderful snippet into the lives of best friends Archie and Mick as the later realises what's been under his nose all the time.

This was everything you'd expect with a book from this author - biting wit, British snark, romance and family and a seriously hot pairing.

I loved the appearance of Gabe and Dylan from her Mixed Messages opener [b:Rule Breaker|36189488|Rule Breaker (Mixed Messages, #1)|Lily Morton|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1504668132s/36189488.jpg|57330979] and to see that they're still sparking off each other like crazy and I liked the little nod to her wider universe by having Mick work for Gabe.

Never mind three dates, there were three times when I almost choked myself laughing that much at the visuals Lily creates with her words, I'd have happily read a full length book with these two happily living ever after together.

It took me a little while to warm up to Mick, as he is a bit slow on the uptake. (This story only works because all but the epilogue's his point of view.) But I cried a lot toward the end. Archie is so freakin' sweet. :)

It's minus a star for a few reasons, and they're all tied together.

I have a growing trope pet peeve: why is it always TEN years? Why not six, or nine, or eleven? Or for this story, a much more reasonable four or five since they're never separated by distance. I suspect the author fell into the decade trope, which is just lazy. Had she avoided that, she would've avoided the rest: Archie is aware of mortality given his job, and should never have been that patient, and Mick isn't stupid. He would've responded before the year (again, too long a time) wasted with the narcissistic* boyfriend. There isn't enough supporting evidence for Mick's tolerance of terrible people who claim to like him. "Orphan" carries little weight on its own; the author relies on us to add weight to it; also lazy.

For a story I enjoyed this much, I have a lot to complain about, and they are structural, important elements that, seen to, would've been great. The end could have used more power, but romances often end rather sloppily, so I'll just throw that one out generally. Stick those landings. Make it sing. I'd be hunting for more by this author if I'd gotten that.

*I don't use that label lightly. I've met a Narcissist. They are difficult and quickly impossible to live with, and you can't fix them. That's not how mental problems work. Any improvement has to come from inside, but this type often can't see what needs work. Look up the list of traits. Mick's ex is a simple version, too simple to be representative. Just close enough that he creeped me out.

Gorgeous little story of a man figuring out the greatest love of his life has been with him the whole time.

The small cameo by the ‘Rule Breakers’ MCs are a delightful bonus.

Just the perfect little feel good tale.

Lily Morton is a solid four star author for me. Even on a small canvas, she paints a clear picture. The characterizations here might be a little broad in spots (evil ex who just about beggars belief), but none of that diminishes the warm easy banter she writes so well.
