Could not bring myself to even finish this book. Really loved the first two books. Third book was very good. Wished I would have stopped after that.

I did go back and finish the book because I hate leaving books unfinished. UGH! A whole lot of what would have been interesting and emotional scenes were left out and a whole lot of other crap that should have been left out, was not.

What a disappointment.

Holy crap this was a long book. It really could have been 2 books. So many things happened that I don't remember everything! Overall a great book, even if it's a bit too long.

I enjoyed the lead up to the Revolutionary War as imagined by Gabaldon and lived by Claire and Jamie. I found fewer loose ends in this one and found the pace faster. I can't believe it would have been 1400 pages in print! Still don't really like Roger and found the whole paternity thing tiresome (wasn't that all resolved in the last book?) but loved all the bits about Brianna and her engineering. I wish there were less homophobia in these books but perhaps they are a reflection of the time(s) like the gender roles and violence.

Ugh. So good. Especially the ending and epilogue. This series is like a heated, weighted blanket on a pajama day.

It's not often a writer can make me feel such deep and powerful emotions as Diana Gabaldon has. I have almost thrown the book across the room in anger, I have yelled out loud in surprise (to my husbands shock! Haha) and I ended the book through sobbing tears. Diana is such a wonderful writer that she brings you in to this family and makes your heart ache with the characters. I will say this book took me to a place I have not been in a while. Pure literary joy. Thank you! Must read, and that goes for the whole series. Love it! This book took me somewhere further though. Could be my favorite so far!

Back to the action in this one thankfully. And Stephen Bonnet is dead, finally! So glad that story line is over. Will be interesting to see what happens with Brianna and Roger on the other side. Felt like important plot movers are revealed at the end. Taking a break from the series for the rest of 2019 so I’m hoping I don’t forget these! All in all, enjoyed and will continue.

Second read through and the previous review still stands. Action, but didn’t always seem so wildly unlikely as I know we will get to in the next few books. Really love the inclusion of the epilogues and that we get a quick glimpse at how Brianna and Roger are faring in the future.

These books are even better the second time around. I wouldn't think it possible. :)

The best book in this series in a while! It’s saying something that simultaneously while I was reading a book about how important sleep is I was reading this book and staying up wayyyyyy past my bedtime because I just couldn’t put it down.
Personal and possibly unpopular note- thank goodness we can finally be done with Stephen bonnet. He was not nearly as interesting a villain as Randall and I was soooooo sick of him popping up again and again and again
