The first half of the book was good. Cute, fun, good mystery… and then BAM! I did not see that twist coming! Loved the resolution as well. I think this is the first standalone fantasy I’ve read and I loved it!

This was good! I really did not like the narrator much; it felt kind of like he was reading to a child. That said, I DID enjoy the story a lot. This was excellent historical fantasy with a tiny sprinkle of very G-rated romance (my favorite dose and type of romance). I really would be interested in finding out what happens next, though I  am pretty sure this is a standalone.

This book started off very slow, so I wasn’t sure if I would like it. However, once we got into the meat of the story, I enjoyed it! I think there’s a particularly good plot twist in this one, and I actually really liked the main character. He feels like if the typical, tortured YA love interest were the protagonist instead, and seeing him be a little foolish or impulsive was refreshing. Like I said, it takes a while to get into it, I wasn’t even sure what the main plot was going to be for a while, but it’s pretty well-paced after that.

What a surprise. I'd never heard of this book, but I was desperate to find a book authored by a Pacific Islander to complete a Popsugar Challenge prompt. And I'm sure happy I picked this one!

This YA Fantasy is a quick read, easy to get through. The characters were lovely to get to know, I really liked them all. Cas and Lena were instant favorites, but Bittor stole my heart with his snark and humor. The mystery, I figured it out pretty early on, but it was compelling and I couldn't wait for the reveal. The ending was a little dark, but this story is mild on violence and gore as compared with other YA Fantasy. There is also LGBTQ+ representation! Great story, and I wouldn't hesitate to read more from this author.
