I liked the first two books of this series pretty good. Not sure if I'll read the rest of the series though. It's not the genre that I normally read so it was hard to keep my attention. This book started out pretty depressing too. It had a few feel good moments, but not enough to keep me interested really. Maybe one day I will read the others in the series but for right now, I have way too many other books that I want to read.

~ Audiobook Review ~

I’m heading back in the Baxter archives to meet this family and get the backstory. Whilst the newer Baxter Family series are all written as stand alone’s I definitely feel it’s been worth coming back to the beginning before continuing the newer books - it will make the newer books feel like coming back to dinner with old friends!

I’m also only listening to the abridged audio version which are 4hrs each, which will be helpful for getting through the 20+ books faster. But also means my review & experience might be missing things.

Characters: This book focuses on Ashley Baxter & Landon. Other characters with growing storylines: Kari & Ryan, Luke & Reagan, Erin & Sam

Series: This is book 2 in the Redemption Series which is the first series in the larger Baxter family story. This series is best read in order, though I skipped book 1 and still feel I got enough of a recap on Kari’s story.

Content: 9/11, Death, Dimentia, pre-marital sex, questioning Christianity, humanism, marital struggles, kissing, romance, redemption, strong Christian focus

Book recommendations:
Another book that focuses on Ashley as the main character: [b: Forgiving Paris|56898079|Forgiving Paris A Novel|Karen Kingsbury|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1614528424l/56898079._SY75_.jpg|88975958] (2021) which can be read as a stand-alone.

Audio Performance: 8/10
In this Abridged version Sandra gives a fully voiced performance (meaning each character is given a unique sounding voice) she reads nicely and was relaxing to listen to.

Oh goodness, I love this book!
For a few years, my family cared for the sweetest elderly lady and she had Alzheimer’s. Some days it was hard and others not so hard, she was so sweet and we were her honorary grandkids. But anyway, this story was so much better with the ladies and Bart as Ashley cared for them. I loved the book and seeing more abhor what made the Baxter the family they are on the latter books is basically kind of my more preferred book series. Luke and Ashley in this book make sense as to the relationship in the Firstborn series.

I am really enjoying this series! The first book was good, if not a little predictable, but this second book was great! I loved Ashley and Landon's story and I love how Ms. Kingsbury gives the reader glimpses of the other characters stories. Definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.

I'm not much of a reader of Christian fiction, though I have read it in the past. I was mostly expecting to make fun of this book and I certainly wasn't expecting to get pulled completely into the story. But of course I was! Yes, it was a little soap opera-ish and sometimes felt a little too much like a Victorian morality story from a pamphlet preaching the consequences of sin, and there were parts that grated just a little too much with my worldview, but overall I found it a pretty fun read.

The book focuses on the Baxter family's five adult children and their relationships. This one was mostly about Ashley who went to Paris and came home pregnant (Gasp! And every time someone has sex, they get pregnant and of course no one has heard of a condom!). But I did enjoy the various love stories of the different siblings and watching the characters grow. There was a lot of growing in this book and I always like to see that. Some of the stereotypes were a little strong, but that didn't bother me too much either because all along it was pretty fun. I found it a very uplifting book, which I probably need in my life once in a while. It was full of good feelings and warm and fuzzies.

Oh yeah, I should also mention that September 11 takes place during this book so a lot of the second half of the book is dealing with that. It got a little hard for me to read at some points. I know it has been ten years, but it's still painful. I thought it was interesting to see the different character's approaches to the situation and how they handled it. Though I do sound like I have a lot of negative things to say about it, I did really like this book, and I may even read the next one in the series.

A Special Note: Redemption series is Christian Fiction. I am not Christian and I have not read the Bible. So, I am not in a position to agree or disagree with the religious side of the book and my review will be solely focus on this series as a work of fiction and my point of views on the characters/situations as a third person. I do not mean to criticize or applaud any of the religious views presented through the stories.

Ashley Baxter had always been the free-spirit of her family. She had always stood out amongst the faithful family members that she belonged to. Ashley wanted more from her life than what her ‘safe’ family could provide. So, she travels to Paris in search of adventure and to make her mark in the world of Art. But when she returns from Paris, she is pregnant and tight-lipped about it all and even though she was finally back home – she was as unreachable by her family as if she was still in Paris. Landon Blake, who has been in love with her since their teens, tries to bring her out of that shell with his love and attention. Yet, Ashley remains unresponsive towards his gestures… On the other hand, Luke, the baby of the family returns after the 9/11 incidence questioning everything that the family has always stood for. There’s also a sort of conclusion to Kari’s story from the first installment.

I have to say that I liked this story more than Redemption. Ms.Karen continues with her fascinating style of story-telling that keeps you close to the story and flow with it. She has included the 9/11 tragedy in a manner that makes the incident personal globally. I liked Ashley and couldn’t help but compare her to her elder sister Kari. Ashley comes across as more practical though they are equally soft hearted. I also absolutely loved the ‘extras’ in the novel. Ashley’s Alzheimer’s patients manage to touch a readers’ heart in a way that is impossible to ignore. Luke on the other hand touched the wrong nerves in me and I couldn’t just muster up the patience to deal with his hypocrisy in this novel. The next book in the series is going to focus on Luke’s story and I sure do hope he redeems himself before it is too late. Landon is a sweet guy too.
As with the characters, the plot of this novel matured a bit too over the first installment and I have rather enjoyed reading this one.
