Doidge does a great job in teaching us the plasticity of the brain. By giving us real time examples of studies done on individuals as well as groups of people and animals, he is giving us the data along with cold hard facts. The brain has specific areas specialized for some functions, but if those areas are compromised, the brain will map out other neuronal connections and populate other parts of the brain. Localization is still widely popular, but this book will change how people think about neuroplasticity.

DNF: Great book but it basically makes the same point again and again with many different stories.

An engaging set of stories from people that have recovered from extreme situations through plasticity. The extent to which the brain can repair is inspiring and near miraculous.

The book includes scenes of animal research which may disturb some poeple, but is and was the reality of much medical research.

A couple of chapters were a little long, but for the most part this is an excellent book, with scientific ideas presented in an easily understandable way.
