I love this book. Well I love the duet!! The ending seemed rushed.

I’ll do my best to add all the trigger warning..

I’m not even sure why I started this book because the first one wasn’t good. Epic levels of toxicity and hypocrisy. Neither of the main characters were likable. In fact, I didn’t find any of the characters likable. The male main character is allowed to get away with an absurd amount of abuse because, what, he’s attractive? The inner monologue of both main characters was annoying and lacked any depth or reflection. Overall the writing was poor, repetitive, and seemed to aim for shock value rather than any substance.

This book is challenging, and I truly did not enjoy reading the content it held, though I did for the sake of finishing out their story. I realize not everyone heals from trauma the same way, but I didn’t love how the protagonist was forced to heal from hers. All in all, I think the first is much better. For me, this was triggering beyond belief and brought more sadness than enjoyment; I am grateful the author is adamant about warnings because it’s needed. Also - knife play, not my thing, so that added to my dislike. And the fact that most of the kidnappers were Latino or described to be, pretty offensive.

It was definitely a traumatic read. Part 1 had me on the edge of my seat. My emotions were all over the place. There were parts that were a little much for me (read the trigger warnings) between Zade and Addie but I still loved the book.

Man, this book had some extremely heavy moments. The entire first half of the book was weighted with terror and sorrow. But despite the series being smut, the second book is layered with surprising depth.
Addie’s
journey through
abuse, grief and guilt
was just as messy as anyone would expect it to be. It was raw and nonlinear in the way that those experiences would be in real life.
