Read it in one sitting. But not sure how I feel about it. Generally I don’t really enjoy books with flowery writing or that talk in metaphors. So this one was a lot to wrap my head around and still not totally sure I got the point.

Hmmmm this book isn’t bad by all means but I think because I am also reading Ducks, Newburyport I found it to be more of the same. Kind of like a condensed version of that. I enjoyed it just not as much as I expected.

The narrator is neither a librarian nor a therapist but she plays one in her life, which includes a nice husband, a sweet son, a not-so-recovering drug addict brother, a Jesus-freak mother, an advice columnist second boss, and all the many people she meets and feels responsible for on a daily basis. The author has a light touch and a nice ironic wit and I wish she'd go to an Al-Anon meeting.

"When electricity was first introduced to homes, there were letters to newspapers about how it would undermine family togetherness. Now there would be no need to gather around a shared hearth, people fretted. In 1903, a famous psychiatrist worried that young people would lose their connection to dusk and its contemplative moments.

Hahaha!

(Except when was the last time I stood still because it was dusk?)"
