Eww dude
It's rape and she knows it 🤢😥
And the grand-grandmother's story was just so uninteresting to me personally.

I'm quite torn about this one. I like Dark Romance, and that's why I picked this book up, but having so many scenes feel non-consensual really turned me off of it. The hypocrisy was too much for me. Zade is being portrayed as a hero for doing the work he does (dismantling human trafficking rings, saving women and children from abuse, etc.) but then he goes ahead and basically r*pes Adeline? Like, I know what CNC is but this just wasn't it. She says 'no' multiple times during the gun scene, and the way it's being described and portrayed makes it clear that she doesn't want him to do what he is doing. So, someone who is all about saving women just ends up completely ignoring what the woman in front of him consents to? Idk, this just isn't sitting right with me and actually ruined the book for me a lot. If the "spicy" scenes early on in the book were CNC then this book actually would have been so much more enjoyable.
Overall, I do not get the hype about Zade at all. His character falls quite flat, which is actually pretty funny since he is supposed to be so mysterious and all. There just isn't any substance to his character, in my opinion.
By the end of the book, I was more interested in who killed her great-grandmother and if and who would come after Adeline than her and Zade's "relationship".
I will be reading the 2nd book because I want to know how the whole story wraps up with her being taken, etc. but I'm definitely not reading it for me Zade/Adeline content. Zade could die in the next book and I would not care at all.

I really enjoyed this book. I think the best way to describe it is : “Taken” meets “Fifty Shades of Grey” meets “John Wick”. Make sure to read the trigger warnings… this book won’t be for everyone. I heard there will only be two, but I hope she changes her mind and makes a third.

No. Just no.
The writing is bad. The characters have no depth and I didn't like their dialogues, with each other and their inner monologues. Cringe. And I couldn't care for the side mystery story of the grandma enough to continue this book.
And we're supposed to romanticize the hero being a stalker and violent person who might even hurt the heroine? (I read a spoiler and he does hurt the heroine, he rapes her!) He's supposed to be good just because he saves children and women from rape and trafficking? But he clearly traumatizes and stalks a woman he likes and enflicts the same thing to her? 🤢
