PLEASE READ THE CONTENT WARNINGS! This book is really graphic, I didn’t want to finish. 

Where to even begin. I was so excited to read this book because of the good reviews and because the synopsis seemed intriguing. 

I think there is a point in writing fiction where vulgar language and horrible hate crimes turns from fiction into horror, and this book got right to that turning point. I agree with many of the other 1 star reviews saying that the darkness of the scenes and the narrative of constant abuse felt gratuitous and that it was going absolutely nowhere. This book seemed to be trying to portray despicable behavior, but ended up almost fetishizing abuse of women, children, animals, and lgbtq.

Easily just soared to the top of my favorite books of all time. So beautifully written with such devastating heartbreak. I’m going to be thinking about Betty for a long time.
