A beauty and the beast retelling in which our hero is visibly disabled and a very satisfactory example of the subgenre.
It hits all the beats you would expect and throws in more than enough tension, banter and sexy times (particularly after the half-way point) but in my opinion is predicable. The resolution of the main conflict (the sister being forced into a really unfortunate marriage) was handled well but over all this book was enjoyable but nothing special. I'm glad I read it and would recommend to other Beauty and the Beast retelling aficionados and people who like historical romance.

I appreciate being able to escape into a historical even when maybe the history parts aren't quite accurate. I've put the next book on my TBR as I'm curious to see how it meshes with this one.

Enjoyed it

This was sort of like a loose reenactment of beauty and the beast. I enjoyed it. I appreciated how fierce, intelligent and independent the heroine is. Also how open minded and perceptive the hero was. I felt so bad on how the ton treated him

"A stunning rose, sheathed in bloodthirsty thorns..."
*
A Beauty and the Beast retelling with a twist. A woman who needs security and a Duke who wants to keep to himself. Let the matrimony games begin...not forgetting some spice!
*
"Because sometimes a girl doesn’t need a hero to save her. Sometimes she needs the opposite..."
*
I flew through this book! It was such an easy read with a good dose of regency and romance, not to mention a spicy enemies to lovers story. At times there was some repetition of reactions, especially on the Duke's part but, hey, I couldn't put this book down! It was very addictive.
*
This is the perfect read if you've binged Bridgerton on Netflix and need a further fix of a stubborn Duke and a strong willed woman by his side.
*
"Love is one part courage, one part choice, and one part luck. And like anything worth fighting for, it’s worth it in the end..."
