DID NOT FINISH: 5%

Realized I just wasn't interested in continuing.

I think Mulan is one of my favorite fairy-tales, although it isn't so much fairies as much as a young woman finding strength within herself to do great things. I also think that Mulan is one of the few fairy-tales that epitomizes true love. I'm not necessarily talking about the love the Mulan has for her prince; rather, I am speaking of the love that Mulan has for her father and family. A love strong enough that she would take her father's place in the army. I think that's why I like Mulan so much. She is unlike me, but I admire who she is and how she is different from me.

this book gives me eyes into a world i cannot see, but i wish i could. this a truly great story.

this book holds a tale that made my heart cry out for joy and pain for all the things that happened in this story.

A classic retelling of Mulan. Well I thought the beginning went on for a smidge too long and the ending was a smidge too short, I still really loved this retelling.

I don't know if I would even give it 3 stars...there is nothing really wrong with it but it was definitely meant for a younger crowd. The writing is very simple and juvenile, and I've been so spoiled with well written YA lately that this just fell very short.

Its a shame too, I was looking forward to reading it because I love the story of Mulan.

Once again not really impressed by Cameron Dokey's writing or execution of the story. It had potential, the ballad of Mulan is one of the most inspiring fairy tales, but she wrote it into the dust. As with 'Golden', the retelling of Rapunzel, this book was flat and lifeless. What was supposed to be the best part of the book, in my opinion, Mulan disguising herself as a boy and riding into battle, was the shortest part of the book. Such a let down. And the 'climax' consisted of only one page and one arrow. Boring! There wasn't anything to it. And this was hardly a retelling, it was just a telling.

I had a good time reading this. It was a quick read, and while I wished it had been paced better, I had fun.
